Customers were flown to Mexico City International Airport on a different aircraft, according to the airline. NEAR BAKHMUT, Ukraine (Reuters) - Ukrainian artillery forces fighting near the Russian-occupied city of Bakhmut say Russian troops are constantly making offensive assaults as fighting intensifies and Kyiv waits for more military aid from the West. Ukrainian forces have taken up a more defensive stance in many areas of the snow-bound front after a counteroffensive last year was unable to break through heavily-defended Russian lines in the occupied south and east. The enemy constantly tries to conduct offensive actions," said Mykhailo, a fighter for Ukraine's 92nd separate assault brigade. "Foreign weapons were not designed to work under such weather conditions," Mykhailo said, adding that vehicles were getting stuck in swamps. "In order to advance, to move the front line, we need ammunition, we need more man power, we need weapons.

Morning Bid: 'Not confident' Powell drags markets lower
  + stars: | 2023-11-10 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
Since the Fed left rates unchanged last week, markets had increasingly grown confident that the peak in U.S. rates was in sight. But up stepped Powell to squash any hopes of an impending rate cut. "[The Fed] is committed to achieving a stance of monetary policy that is sufficiently restrictive to bring inflation down to 2% over time," Powell said. That led stocks lower, with MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan (.MIAPJ0000PUS) skidding 1% to their lowest in a week. The rise in yields boosted the dollar, which is headed for its best week against the yen in three months.

Needing 19 runs off Mitchell Starc's final over, New Zealand milked 13 runs off the first four legitimate deliveries to keep the heat on Australia. "That was awesome," Australia captain Pat Cummins said after their fourth win in six matches. Glenn Phillips broke the burgeoning stand by taking a return catch to dismiss Warner, but Head raced to a 59-ball century. New Zealand were uncharacteristically sloppy in the field, dropping five catches, with Head the beneficiary on two occasions. That left Ferguson with the job of hitting the final delivery for six, but he drilled it straight to the cover fielder instead.

Oct 26 (Reuters) - Ford (F.N) autoworkers were set to head back to work after the United Auto Workers (UAW) union reached a tentative labor deal with the company late Wednesday. Ford was the first of Detroit's Big Three car manufacturers to negotiate a settlement to strikes joined by 45,000 workers since mid-September. The UAW will now turn its attention to talks with General Motors (GM.N) and Chrysler parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI). The UAW told Ford workers now on strike to return to their jobs during the ratification process. That means production of Ford Super Duty pickups, Ford Bronco and Explorer SUVs and Ranger trucks could restart this week.

Getting the deal ratified will be up to Fain and UAW leaders, and that is not assured. UAW workers at the company now called Stellantis rejected a proposal endorsed by UAW leaders in 2015. UAW leaders feared that the automakers would cut jobs at combustion engine factories and shift work to non-union joint venture battery plants or overseas suppliers.

Morning Bid: China trade data disappoints, again
  + stars: | 2023-08-08 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
U.S. equity markets saw their first positive day in August on Monday, but then along came Chinese trade data. Parsing the export data, David Chao, global market strategist at Invesco, says the miss was driven by lower prices rather than lower volumes, and that Chinese export volumes remain surprisingly robust. Though, he says, "looking at other export-related data such as export orders, the outlook appears weak." Even Chinese imports from Russia fell year-on-year in July, the first fall since Feb 2021. Tuesday looks quiet on the U.S. data front, but traders are bracing for the big one - Thursday's CPI data.

Companies O'Reilly Automotive Inc FollowJuly 26 (Reuters) - Auto parts distributor O'Reilly Automotive (ORLY.O) on Wednesday named Brad Beckham as its top boss and raised its annual profit and sales outlook on strong demand for aftermarket products. Inflationary pressures such as high interest rates on leases have led to consumers opting to repair their vehicles instead of buying new ones, bolstering the aftermarket sales of parts suppliers. The company now expects 2023 profit between $37.05 and $37.55 per share, up from prior guidance of $36.50 to $37 per share. O'Reilly now sees full-year revenue to be between $15.4 billion and $15.7 billion, compared to prior expectation of $15.2 billion to $15.5 billion.
